Tamsulosin Dutasteride Tablet
Product Information
Description
What Is Tamsulosin Dutasteride Tablet
The tamsulosin dutasteride combination is a fixed-dose tablet with two active ingredients: dutasteride and tamsulosin hydrochloride. Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker. Together they cover both the hormonal and muscular causes of prostate enlargement. One tablet, taken once daily.
What It Treats
This combination is used for benign prostatic hyperplasia, commonly called BPH or an enlarged prostate. Men with BPH experience poor urine flow, frequent urination at night, and difficulty emptying the bladder fully. The tamsulosin dutasteride combination treats both the symptoms and the underlying prostate growth. It works better together than either drug taken alone.
Some buyers also search for dutasteride tamsulosin for hair loss, since dutasteride alone has shown results in androgenetic alopecia. But the combination tablet is prescribed specifically for BPH. Consult a doctor before using it off-label for hair loss.
How It Works
Dutasteride blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. DHT is the hormone responsible for driving prostate growth. Blocking it causes the prostate to shrink over time, which gradually improves urine flow.
Tamsulosin works differently. It relaxes the smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck, making urination easier almost immediately. One drug acts fast. The other handles the long-term problem.
How to Take It
Take one tablet daily at the same time each evening, preferably 30 minutes after a meal. Swallow it whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew the capsule, as this affects how dutasteride is released.
Dutasteride is absorbed through the skin. Men handling broken or leaking capsules should know it can affect fetal development. Keep tablets away from women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Never double up the next day.
Side Effects
Side effects are generally mild, especially after the first few weeks.
Common or mild side effects:
- Decreased sex drive
- Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection
- Reduced semen volume
- Dizziness, especially when standing up quickly
- Runny or blocked nose
Do not take this tablet if you are already having liver disease. If you experience sudden swelling of the throat or difficulty breathing after a dose, seek emergency care immediately. This kind of reaction is rare but it needs prompt attention.
Who Should Not Take It
- Women and children: this drug is not for them
- Anyone with a known allergy to dutasteride, tamsulosin, or other 5-alpha reductase inhibitors
- Men taking other alpha-blockers at the same time
- Anyone with a history of low blood pressure or who regularly experiences dizziness on standing
Substitutes and Alternatives
The tamsulosin dutasteride combination is also available as two separate tablets if a combined product is not suitable. Dutasteride 0.5 mg is available separately, as is tamsulosin 0.4 mg. Both can be ordered individually if the prescribing doctor recommends separate dosing.
Some men are also placed on finasteride instead of dutasteride. The two are not identical in strength or dosing. Ask your doctor which option suits your case before switching.
Price Note
Generic versions of the tamsulosin dutasteride tablet bring the dutasteride tamsulosin cost down compared to branded options. Pricing depends on the manufacturer and pack size selected at checkout.
Store tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and direct light. Keep them in their original packaging until use.
