Kenacort Cream 0.1%
Triamcinolone acetonideAbout this product
What Is Kenacort 0.1% Cream
Kenacort 0.1% Cream contains triamcinolone acetonide as its active ingredient. It is a mid-strength corticosteroid cream applied directly to the skin. The 0.1% strength makes it useful for a range of skin conditions. It is not one of the stronger options in this drug category. Triamcinolone 0.1 cream comes in a topical format. This means it acts on the skin locally rather than through the whole body.
What It Treats
Kenacort 0.1% Cream is used for skin conditions that involve inflammation, itching, and redness. Doctors prescribe triamcinolone acetonide cream 0.1 for eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and allergic skin reactions. It helps reduce swelling, flaking, and persistent itch.
It does not cure the underlying condition. It controls the symptoms while the skin heals.
How It Works
Triamcinolone acetonide belongs to the corticosteroid drug class. It works by reducing the activity of the immune response in the skin. When the skin becomes inflamed, the body releases chemicals that cause redness and itch. Triamcinolone blocks those chemicals locally. This calms the reaction and reduces the discomfort.
How to Apply It
Clean the affected area with lukewarm water and pat it dry before applying the cream. Apply a thin layer of Kenacort 0.1% Cream to the skin and rub it in gently. Do not cover the area with a tight bandage unless a doctor has told you to. Use it once or twice daily, or exactly as your doctor has directed.
- Do not apply it to broken skin or near the eyes. Do not use it on the face for extended periods without medical advice.
- Using more than a thin layer does not improve results. It increases the chance of skin thinning over time.
- Store the cream at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate it.
Side Effects
Side effects from triamcinolone acetonide cream 0.1 are generally mild when used correctly and for short periods.
Minor side effects:
- Burning or stinging at the application site. this happens because the skin is already irritated. The cream briefly activates nerve endings on contact. It usually settles within a minute or two.
- Skin dryness or peeling the cream can temporarily reduce the skin's natural moisture. Using a plain moisturiser away from the treated area helps.
- Itching at the site
- Redness or slight discoloration
Long-term use on large areas of skin can affect the adrenal glands. These are two small glands sitting above the kidneys. They may produce less of their own hormones if the cream is used heavily over a long period. This is rare with short-term use at 0.1% strength. It is worth knowing if you are using it for several weeks at a time.
Do not use triamcinolone acetonide cream 0.1 on skin that has a fungal or bacterial infection without antifungal or antibiotic cover. The cream reduces the local immune response. This can allow infections to spread.
