Tacrolimus Ointment 0.1%
TacrolimusAbout this product
What Is Tacrolimus Ointment 0.1%?
Tacroz Forte is the brand name for tacrolimus ointment 0.1%, manufactured by Glenmark. The active ingredient is tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor used in skin treatment. It comes as an ointment applied directly to the affected skin area. The 0.1% strength is the higher of the two strengths available for skin use.
Fertimeds carries both the Glenmark brand and the generic alternative.
Ointment uses
Tacrolimus ointment 0.1% is used for atopic dermatitis, which most people know as eczema. It controls the redness, itching, and inflammation that comes with flare-ups. Doctors also use it for other inflammatory skin conditions where steroid creams have not worked or are not suitable.
It is used on adults and children above a certain age. Your doctor will decide if it is right based on your situation.
How Tacrolimus Works on the Skin
In eczema, immune cells in the skin become overactive and release chemicals that cause inflammation. Tacrolimus calms that reaction. It blocks a protein called calcineurin. This stops certain immune cells from releasing the chemicals responsible for redness and itching.
Less of those chemicals means less inflammation at the skin surface. It works on the skin directly rather than affecting the whole body the way an oral medication would.
Side Effects
Most people using tacrolimus ointment 0.1% experience some reaction at the application site, especially in the first few days.
Common and usually temporary:
- Burning or stinging at the application site
- Itching at the site of application
- Skin redness
- A feeling of warmth on the skin
If you notice any unusual skin growths, lumps, or changes during long-term use, report them to your doctor straight away. Do not continue without medical review if this happens.
Usage of this ointment during pregnancy only apply this ointment if a doctor has specifically recommended it after reviewing the risks. Do not use it during pregnancy without medical guidance.
Storage and Handling
Store this ointment at room temperature, away from direct heat and light. Do not freeze it. The ointment consistency can change if exposed to heat, so keep the tube away from bathroom steam and direct sunlight. Cap the tube tightly after each use.
Similar Products Worth Considering
If tacrolimus ointment 0.1% is not the right fit, these alternatives treat similar skin conditions:
- Pimecrolimus cream 1%
- Betamethasone valerate 0.1%
- Hydrocortisone cream 1%
- Clobetasol propionate 0.05%
Each of these works differently or at a different strength. Your doctor will guide you toward the right one based on your skin condition and history.
Availability
Tacrolimus ointment 0.1% is available at Fertimeds. The brand name version is Tacroz Forte. A generic version is also available at a lower cost. Both contain the same active ingredient at the same strength.
