Description

What Is Tenvir 300 mg?

Tenvir 300 mg 30 tablet is made by Cipla. The active ingredient is tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg, one tablet per pack of 30. It belongs to the nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor drug class. This drug class blocks a key enzyme viruses need to copy their DNA inside your cells.

What Does It Treat?

Tenvir 300 mg is used for HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents. It is also used for chronic hepatitis B virus infection. For HIV it is taken with other antiviral drugs. For hepatitis B it can be taken on its own under medical supervision.

It does not cure either condition. It controls viral activity and helps keep levels low in the body.

How It Works

After absorption the body converts tenofovir disoproxil fumarate into its working form inside cells. That working form blocks reverse transcriptase. This is the enzyme HIV uses to turn its genetic material into DNA and replicate. Without this step the virus cannot make new copies of itself.

For hepatitis B the same blocking action applies. The virus cannot replicate effectively. Viral load drops, and liver damage risk reduces over time with ongoing use.

How to Take It

Taking it with a meal improves absorption. Take one tablet once daily at roughly the same time each day. Do not skip doses. Inconsistent levels allow the virus to rebound.

If you miss a dose do not take two tablets to make up for it. Your doctor should confirm the full treatment schedule for your specific case before you begin.

Side Effects

Side effects vary between patients. Minor effects are common when starting out and often settle after a few weeks.

Common and minor:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Flatulence
  • Fatigue

Serious side effects — tell your doctor promptly:

  • Kidney function changes, including reduced urination
  • Bone pain or weakness with long-term use
  • Lactic acidosis — severe muscle pain, difficulty breathing, stomach pain, unusual tiredness
  • Liver enlargement or worsening hepatitis B after stopping the drug

Lactic acidosis is rare but serious. If you develop sudden difficulty breathing along with severe stomach pain and weakness, seek emergency care. Do not stop tenofovir disoproxil fumarate for hepatitis B without medical guidance. Stopping suddenly can cause a sharp rebound in liver inflammation.

Patients with existing kidney disease or bone density concerns should discuss the risks with their doctor before starting. Do not combine with other drugs that affect the kidneys without medical oversight.

Alternatives and Substitutes

Several other brands contain tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg as the same active ingredient. Options vary by manufacturer and where you are buying from. For HIV treatment, combination tablets that include tenofovir alongside other antivirals in a single dose. Ask your doctor if a combined tablet suits your conditions.

Store Tenvir 300 mg 30 tablet at room temperature, away from moisture and direct heat. Keep the strip sealed until use. Humidity can degrade tablets faster than expected with this type of medication.
